The digitalization of the working world is advancing. Naturally, it will also influence the legal sector; in fact, it is already doing so. A booming Legal Tech scene is driving the digitalization of law. For instance, the online platform flightright has processed over 3 million flight delay cases and secured compensations exceeding 100 million euros.

Organized by the Institute for Procedural Law and Attorney Regulation as part of the ADVO-Z Studies, the Faculty of Law at Leibniz Universität Hannover has been offering a Legal Tech course since the winter semester of 2017/2018, making it the first public university in Germany to do so. This course provides participants the opportunity to prepare themselves for the digitalization of legal work during their studies.

Course Content

Legal Tech is different: In an interdisciplinary approach, the course is not just about the theoretical answering of questions. Instead, it offers participants the opportunity to test and develop applications themselves. Content includes, among others:

  • Introduction to Legal Tech
  • Impacts on the legal sector
  • Practical Part: AI-based Assistance Systems
  • Workshop: Legal Design Thinking

Participation in the Course

The Legal Tech course will be conducted in the summer semester of 2020 by RA Michael Friedmann (Managing Director of www.123recht.de and www.frag-einen-anwalt.de) together with RA Florian Specht.
